*H and H NMR Studies of Mixtures 2,6-Lutidine/Water Near the Lower Critical Solution Point

چکیده
Deuteron spin-lattice relaxation time (TJ measurements of binary mixtures 2,6-lut idine/D20 have been done near the lower critical solution point (Tc L), e = (T — Tg L)/Tc 10~. Singularities are observed at Tc L . The changes in the slope of Ti (H) = / ( T ) can be interpreted as due to the effect of concentration changes on Ty and simultaneously strong overlaping of H N M R signals from coexisting phases. In the two-phase region, ca. 2°C above Tc L two D 2 0 signals with very strong temperature evolution have been detected. Similar doubling of 2,6-lutidine 'H N M R signals has been observed already at T — Tc L ^ 1 °C. It is shown that the two signals arise from the nuclei in two coexisting phases; they are not due to pecularities of hydrogen bond. The difference between chemical shifts of both D 2 0 signals ö' — ö" possess the property of an order parameter, i.e. ö' — (5"~ e with 0 = 0.336 ±0.030.

Critical Casimir forces in colloidal suspensions on chemically patterned surfaces.
We investigate the behavior of colloidal particles immersed in a binary liquid mixture of water and 2,6-lutidine in the presence of a chemically patterned substrate. Close to the critical point of the mixture, the particles are subjected to critical Casimir interactions with force components normal and parallel to the surface. Because the strength and sign of these interactions can be tuned by ...
متن کاملCritical Casimir effect in classical binary liquid mixtures.
If a fluctuating medium is confined, the ensuing perturbation of its fluctuation spectrum generates Casimir-like effective forces acting on its confining surfaces. Near a continuous phase transition of such a medium the corresponding order parameter fluctuations occur on all length scales and therefore close to the critical point this effect acquires a universal character, i.e., to a large exte...
متن کاملApplication of Electrochemistry to Determination of Transfer Gibbs Energies and Autoprotolysis Constants for Aqueous Mixtures of Dimethyl Sulfoxide
A practical potentiometric method was applied successfully to experimental electrochemical data in order to determine the autoprotolysis constants (pKap) of water + dimethyl sulfoxide mixtures containing 0-90 % of DMSO by volume at 25° C and 0.1 M ionic strength was maintained in each mixture by NaClO4 solution. The results indicated that water-DMSO mixtures are more basic media than pure water...
متن کاملMicroscopic segregation of hydrophilic ions in critical binary aqueous solvents.
Solid surfaces suspended in critical aqueous binary mixtures containing hydrophilic salt have recently been found to exhibit anomalous interactions, and a possible mechanism is provided by the asymmetric solvation preferences of weakly and strongly hydrophilic cations and anions, respectively. Here we address this mechanism by studying interfacial ion distributions in a critical binary mixture ...
متن کاملX-Ray, Crystal Structure and Solution Phase Studies of a Polymeric SrII Compound
In the crystal structure of the title polymeric compound, [C42H38N6O33Sr5.2(H2O)]n, five independent metal atoms (Sr1-Sr5) have different coordination environments. The Sr1 and Sr5 atoms are nine coordinated and feature distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic and capped square-antiprismatic geometries, respectively....
